Spoiler warning!
This article contains plot details for the newly released One True King. You have been warned.

Bogden is a reader from Gavaldon who accompanies Sophie and Agatha on their mission to save their friends' failed quests.

Appearance[]

Bogden is short, stocky, and dark, and the complete opposite of Willam, who is tall, thin, and fair.

After the battle against the Snake, he combs his hair and wears one of Tedros' starched shirts.

One True King[]

At the Bank of Putsi, Sophie gets knocked out and awakes inside a vault with Willam, Bogden, and Robin. Sophie remarks how William and Bogden are clearly in love. The four of them plus Bettina escape through a doorway in the wizard tree and then have to climb down a wall with flowers that know your deepest desires. Willam hears one of the flowers talk about bringing his brother Tristan back, but he ignores it. On the other hand, Sophie touches one of the flowers, which grants her desire to be reunited with Agatha. Willam, Bogden, Robin, and Bettina rush to help Sophie and Agatha, who are being attacked by Japeth. Willam is badly injured but he and Bogden get to safety.

Later, at one point, Kiko tries to make a move on Willam since he reminds her of Tristan, not catching on that the brothers have no interest in girls. Kiko doesn't get why Bogden was so upset and protective of Willam. She eventually realizes that Willam doesn't like her romantically but thinks it's because he prefers tall girls.

When Sophie gets captured yet again by Japeth's crew, Willam and Bogden assist Hort in helping her escape. Hort, however, gets brutally injured, and Sophie has no choice but to keep going without him. Clinging to the underside of goats, Sophie, Willam, and Bogden are whisked away unseen. Once out of danger, Willam and Bogden explain how the rescue mission had been Hort's plan, that he'd been their leader. Now they all looked to Sophie for their next move. But Sophie was too wracked with emotion, believing Hort to be dead. In contrast, Sophie noted that Willam and Bogden were young and in love and still had hope.

At the end, Willam gets admitted to the School for Good so that he can stay with Bogden. It seems as though Bogden was reinstated at the School for Evil despite previously flunking out.

Relationships[]

Willam[]

Bogden and Willam originally didn't get along well. Bogden made fun of Willam for throwing-up so much on the boat, and Willam kicked him in response. However, they later realize they have a lot in common, such as their shared interest in tarot cards and fortune-telling, as well as playing the bongos.

In book 6, Sophie remarks on how in love they are and it seems that Willam and Bogden are in a romantic relationship.

Tedros[]

Tedros does not take Bogden very seriously. When Bogden and Willam warned him to be wary of gifts, Tedros brushed it off, thinking tarot was foolish nonsense. Had Tedros listened, perhaps he could have prevented the chaos that ensued.

Sophie[]

Bogden is Sophie's assistant. After failing three classes in a row, he should have been expelled, as per Sophie's new rule. Sophie, however, took pity on a fellow reader, and offered him a choice. Either he could go back home to his old life, or he could stay at school and become her assistant. Choosing the latter, he now does his best to please Sophie. In book 6, he helped hide Sophie from Japeth at the bank, and later assisted Hort in freeing Sophie from Japeth's crew.

Trivia[]

  • Bogden is a vegetarian.
